During Your Visit
How long is a typical exam?
After check-in, your vision will be tested, eye pressure measured, and your pupils dilated. Dilation alone requires approximately 30 minutes.
First visits may take two hours or longer, especially if treatment is provided the same day.
Can I drive home after my appointment?
Usually, yes. We provide disposable sunglasses, or you may bring your own.
If you’ve previously had difficulty driving after dilation or if laser treatment is performed, you will need someone to drive you home.
How will my doctor examine my eyes?
Your exam includes vision testing, pupil response, eye movement evaluation, peripheral vision testing, and eye pressure screening. After dilation, your doctor will examine the macula, retina, and vitreous using specialized instruments.
Additional testing may include:
- Fundus Photography – Detailed retinal imaging
- Fluorescein Angiography – Imaging of retinal blood flow using a dye
- Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) – Cross-sectional retinal scans
- Visual Field Testing – Measures blind spots and peripheral vision
- Ultrasound – Imaging using sound waves for structural evaluation
